NBA writer urges Celtics to avoid making big roster moves this summer

The Boston Celtics are being pressured on all sides to make massive roster moves this summer, but what if they simply chose not to?

With a core that has proven its elite status over the last two years, dismantling this group could be a misstep, an argument proposed on Thursday by Forbes' national NBA writer Shane Young.

"No matter what happens, you just can't make significant changes to this Celtics' roster," Young posted to X.

"Think it would be a mistake. They are too good. Pretty clearly the second best team in the league all year and had some unfortunate shooting luck in Games 1-2."

In Young's defense, trading key players would risk disrupting chemistry and could yield diminishing returns, as few available stars would elevate this group more than the current lineup.

With Jayson Tatum expected to miss some or all of the 2025-26 campaign, moving on from Jaylen Brown suddenly seems less productive than ever.

Kristaps Porzingis' injury and illness situations have been disappointing, and given that KP will be on an expiring deal next season, you have to think Celtics GM Brad Stevens will be open to offers for the seven-foot-four center, but that doesn't mean he'll ultimately be moved.

The other name people are pushing in trade rumors is 34-year-old Jrue Holiday. Some people feel that Holiday has looked washed up this season, but he may be merely dealing with a myriad of injuries. It's always hard to tell with a warrior like Holiday.

Holiday is one of the most winning players in the NBA, and it would take a lot for Stevens to trade him (Stevens has been outspoken about how much he values Holiday).

Maybe Boston should just focus on minor tweaks -- perhaps adding a bench shooter or big man for depth -- while preserving the core. This team is still just a year removed from winning it all.
