No smooth landing for briefly airborne car in freeway crash: Pepper Pike Police Blotter

A four-car crash in a freeway construction zone resulted in one possible injury on the afternoon of May 14. With traffic stopped in the right lane under the Fairmount Boulevard overpass at 4:30 p.m., a northbound Hyundai SUV failed to slow down and tried to skirt between two lanes.

Clipping the back of the car on the right, the SUV's passenger side went airborne and sideswiped the car on the left before veering diagonally into the trunk of a stopped car ahead before striking a Jersey barrier.

The driver at fault, a Willoughby man, 29, was cited for failure to maintain assured clear distance, driving under suspension and expired plates.

Another driver's front and rear camera video was posted on the department's Facebook page.

Burglary: Shaker Boulevard

A resident reported returning home May 11 after two weeks out of town and finding their home had been broken into.

An unspecified amount of money and jewelry were taken, with the investigation continuing.

Fraud: Chagrin Boulevard

The Orange School Resource Officer (SRO) reported May 13 he heard accusations that a district employee had signed a document not only herself but for another school staff member without their authorization.

Investigation of the alleged actions of the Chagrin Falls woman involving the unspecified school form continued, with police noting that the Orange High School and the district offices are actually located in Pepper Pike.

Criminal damaging: Pinetree Road

A customer at a local salon reported at 6 p.m. May 13 that someone smashed out both passenger side windows on their Ford Fusion while it was parked in the lot.

Police speculated that the suspect may have attempted to steal some belongings left in plain view inside, although nothing appeared to be missing.

Vandalism: Belcourt Road

A Lyndhurst man reported May 14 that the previous day between 6 and 11 p.m. someone keyed a direct obscenity on his Mazda SUV.

Unwanted guest: Windy Hill Drive

Police advised an adult resident's ex-boyfriend, an Eastlake man, 18, on the evening of May 9 that he was no longer welcome at her house and could face trespassing charges if he returned.

Suspicion, attempt to locate: Shaker Boulevard

After police noticed a juvenile with no reflective clothing out riding a bike at 10:30 p.m. May 13, the cyclist escaped with his bike into the woods and remained unidentified.

Suspicion: Chestnut Lane

A resident came to the police station on May 14 to report a family dispute. Officers mediated the situation, with no further action taken at that time.
