Marlon Wayans brings new comedy tour to Bakersfield's Fox Theater Friday night

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- Anticipation is building as Marlon Wayans prepares to take the stage at the historic Fox Theater in downtown Bakersfield on Friday night. The comedian is set to perform all-new material as part of his Wild Child Tour.

When asked about the content of his show, Wayans remained tight-lipped. "If I told you, then, why would you have to come to the show?" he said. However, he assured fans that nothing is off-limits, including poking fun at himself. "You know, I just tell the truth, the dark truth, in a funny way. And jokes are on me. I try to get everybody to laugh and enjoy themselves, and then, you know, I'm an equal opportunity offender, because everybody gets it. It's not about politics. It's not about nothing. This is about me," Wayans said. "I think those... when we talk about you, you talk about your pain. I think those are the most healing sets."

Wayans is no stranger to using comedy as a form of therapy. He recently opened up about the loss of his parents in his stand-up special "Good Grief" on Prime Video. "It was hard to perform all the time because, you know, you're dealing with, possibly dealing with the pain and the suffering of losing your parents," he said. "And, you know, just every night, and it's like when I finally did the special. I think part of the reason why I cried, because it was kind of like a send-off to my parents."

In addition to his tour, Wayans is working on a new "Scary Movie" film with his brothers Keenen and Shawn Wayans. "You know, we'll be out next year, June 12. So, you know, we got a script. You know, it's always a process, working it every day, continuously, making it better," he said. When asked if familiar faces would return, Wayans teased, "Well, I'm not going to say, but I hope so."

Wayans will also star in the upcoming Jordan Peele psychological thriller "Him," set to release in September. "Jordan's a visionary, and I'm glad you cast me in this," Wayans said. "I mean, Justin tipping, and I just gave it my all, and I think it's gonna be my best dramatic performance."

Despite over 30 years in the industry, Wayans continues to seek improvement. "I want to be the most versatile actor, producer, writer, comedian that ever existed," he said. "I want to be believable in every role that I do, and be able to maximize my energy and put it into every role. And the audience goes, yo. I don't care if it's drama, stand-up, I know he's excellent. I'm going to see him."

Wayans plans to film his Wild Child Tour this summer for a future release on streaming platforms. Tickets for Friday's show are still available at www.marlonwayans.com.
