HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. -- It is the season for holiday safety. This time of the year usually means fun and laughter, but first responders want people to be cautious of the risks of house fires.
According to Arcata Fire Chief Emmons, people should be cautious and mindful of the placement of their indoor and outdoor lights, ensuring their Christmas tree stays hydrated, along with kitchen reminders.
"People should clean their oven before they start doing projects as far as cooking a prime rib, turkey or a ham; also don't leave things in the oven to cook like don't leave the house if you are cooking you should always be in attendance," said Emmons.
Emmons also urges people to have fire extinguishers in case a fire happens.
